We held an exhibition of Akira Shimizu [1936- ] in HIRO GALLERY IZUOKAWA.

Shimizu is one of the artists who belonged to the Japanese “Anti-art” movement, in which artists tried utilizing garbage to make paintings, sculptures, and installations, or doing extreme performances, and that was symbolized by Yomiuri Independent exhibition from the beginning of the 1960s. This exhibition spaned from the reproduction of an installation he made in 1960s’ Yomiuri Independent exhibition to the paintings, collage and three-dimensional works made from 60s to the present. We titled this exhibition “Brilliant Darkness - vol. 1”, the first exhibition of the following ones, which reveal an entire world of Akira Shimizu.

ヒロ画廊伊豆大川にて、清水晃(1936- )個展を開催いたしました。

清水は1960年代初めより、読売アンデパンダン展を中心に起こった廃物を利用した絵画、彫刻、インスタレーション、パフォーマンスなどの表現による「反芸術」活動に登場したアーティストの一人で、また舞台芸術の土方巽、高井富子らと交友を深め、芸術の可能性を追求してきました。本展では1960年代に読売アンデパンダン展にて発表したインスタレーションの再現から、６０年代〜現在に至る絵画、コラージュ、立体作品を展示し、清水晃の全貌展第一弾「Brilliant Darkness - vol. 1 」を開催いたしました。ご来場誠にありがとうございました。
