HIRO GALLERY IZUOKAWA held an exhibition “something about a room not having a floor” by Ryo SHIMIZU [1977- ].

He focuses on the relationship between the space and its background, mainly using characters. Since 2011, he is working on installation using architecture, video, text, voice, based on fieldwork in Japan and abroad. His artworks have been exhibited not only in Japan, but also in many other countries such as Russia, Taiwan, UAE, and so on.

The title for this exhibition, “something about a room not having a floor,” is an idea gotten from a limerick “The Floorless Room” by Gelett Burgess. Likening ‘room’ and ‘floor’ to the society and its foundation, an installation was represented utilizing the gallery space that has a courtyard.

ヒロ画廊伊豆大川にて、清水玲（しみず・りょう　1977 - ）個展「something about a room not having a floor」を開催いたしました。

清水は空間とその背景との関係性に着目し、主に文字を用いた作品を制作してきました。2011 年以降、国内外でのフィールドワークやインタビューをもとに、建築、映像、収集物、リサーチ資料、音声や文字を用いたインスタレーションに取り組んでいます。十和田市現代美術館での個展をはじめ、国内外のアートイベントで活躍しています。

本展のタイトル「something about a room not having a floor」は、ゲレット・バージェスの戯れ歌『The Floorless Room』から着想を得ています。〈部屋〉や〈床〉を社会やその基盤に見立て、中庭を持つ回廊型のギャラリー空間を利用したインスタレーションが展開されました。
